Shimano Advances Its DC Reel Lineup with Updated Curado DC 150A and New Calcutta Conquest DC
Upgraded Freshwater Workhorse and First-Ever Saltwater-Rated DC Reel Debut at ICAST 2026.
Shimano North America Fishing introduces two significant additions to its Digital Control reels at ICAST 2026: the fully updated Curado DC 150A and the Calcutta Conquest DC A, the first saltwater-rated DC reel in Shimano's history. Together, these two reels expand the reach of DC technology from freshwater to inshore saltwater applications.
The Curado DC 150A is built for anglers who want dependable performance across a wide range of techniques. Its updated I-DC4 braking system uses a microcomputer to monitor spool speed 1,000 times per second, reducing backlash and maximizing casting distance.
“The Curado DC has always been one of our most versatile and approachable baitcast reels, and the 150A takes everything that made it great and sharpens it,” says Kade Gewanter, Product Marketing Manager at Shimano North America Fishing. “The Calcutta Conquest DC is a genuine milestone. Bringing the intelligence of DC technology into a saltwater-rated package opens up a whole new set of applications for anglers who fish across fresh and salt.”
MGL Spool III and I-DC4 power the Curado DC 150A, pairing an ultra-thin spool design for reduced startup inertia and faster, more predictable casting with four DC braking modes tuned for different line types and conditions: maximum distance, braid/mono, fluorocarbon, and heavy wind or skipping situations. Together, they remove guesswork and improve control across a wide range of freshwater applications.
The reel’s HAGANE Body provides a rigid, all-metal frame for efficient power transfer under load, while Cross Carbon Drag delivers smooth, consistent stopping power with long-term durability.
The Calcutta Conquest DC A steps up with I-DC5, Shimano’s flagship braking system featuring dual-dial control for line type and lure size plus AUTO mode, along with a refined magnet layout that improves spool startup speed by 12 percent. It also integrates an MGL Spool IV and InfinityDrive, combining low-inertia casting performance with up to 40 percent lighter rotation under heavy load for improved control during hard fights.
The Curado DC 150A (MSRP $314.99) is a complete update to the existing Curado DC series, available in three gear ratios: MG (6.2:1), HG (7.4:1), and XG (8.5:1), in both right- and left-hand configurations. The Calcutta Conquest DC A (MSRP $649.99) is a line addition within Shimano's Calcutta Conquest family and marks the first DC-equipped reel in the series rated for saltwater use. Both products will be available at authorized Shimano retailers. For more information on these new offerings and Shimano's complete range of fishing tackle, visit fishshop.shimano.com.
