Engineering the Ultimate PNW Salmon Series: The All-New IMX-PRO Salmon

Designed in the PNW for the PNW. Explore how the new IMX-PRO Salmon series uses guide-driven insights to create the ultimate precision tool kit for local fisheries.

Engineering the Ultimate PNW Salmon Series: The All-New IMX-PRO Salmon

When you live and work in Woodland, Washington, you don’t just design rods; you design solutions for the rivers that define our region. For the new IMX-PRO Salmon series, my team and I collaborated with acclaimed PNW local guides to ensure every blank was fine-tuned for our specific fisheries and techniques. This isn’t a general-purpose lineup, it’s a precision-engineered tool kit.

TAPERTEC: Design Reimagined

The backbone of this series is our TAPERTEC design philosophy. Instead of a traditional iterative approach, we leveraged mathematical modeling prior to mandrel production. This allowed us to optimize the rod’s weight and strength before we even touched a prototype. The result? Lighter, more efficient tools that shorten development timelines and maximize effectiveness on the water.

Built for the Grind (and the Rod Holder)

Salmon fishing is famously hard on gear. We addressed this with a series of hardware and ergonomic upgrades:

• Over-Engineered for the "High-Stick" Reality: Let’s be honest: when a large salmon is thrashing at the net and dives under the hull, perfect form usually goes out the window. Most rods fail in that high-stick position, but we designed these banks to defy those limits. During the R&D phase in Woodland, we put these blanks through the ringer. We took them to a high-stick angle that would typically shatter a high-performance rod, and we actually maxed out our break tank. By utilizing TAPERTEC mathematical modeling, we were able to create a small-diameter blank that remains extremely sensitive while housing a massive amount of reserve power. We didn't just guess where the breaking point was; we pushed the engineering until the testing equipment couldn't pull any harder. Whether you’re yarding on a fish in heavy current or dealing with a late-game surge, these blanks are built to handle the abuse.

• Woven Carbon Handles: On almost every model, we swapped traditional cork for woven carbon. It’s sharper-looking, easier to clean, and provides better sensitivity. Plus, it features a special paint to help protect and keep fish scents from soaking into the handle.

• Rod Holder Durability: Models like the HSR and SATR (including the BC) feature double-layer carbon handles specifically designed to withstand the abuse of heavy-duty rod holders.

• Triangular Foregrip: Most models feature a unique triangular foregrip to increase torsional rigidity by more closely fitting inside of your palm. This gives you more control when a heavy King tries to twist the rod in your hands.

Technique-Specific Innovation

We didn't just make "salmon rods"; we made specific tools for how we actually fish in the Northwest:

• The Return of Hover: By popular demand, we’ve brought back the legendary Hover action from the legacy GLX Salmon series.

• Mastering the BC Fishery: The BC-specific rods feature an ergonomic cork foregrip with a "raccoon tail" composite cork section for added rod holder durability. We also opted for higher frame Fuji Alconite stripper guides to optimize the line angle coming off the oversized reels.

• Perfect Balance: Our float rod utilizes an aluminum butt cap and an extra-high-density core in the rear grip to act as a perfect counterbalance for long days on the river.

• Reduced weight: We used a single-layer carbon handle on rods that are built for in hand fishing to help reduce weight where added strength wasn’t necessary. TWCHR, HVR, SAR, and SAFR.

Engineering Benefit

Fuji Reel Seats

Durable, double lock nut, reel seats to keep reels secure during heavy trolling or long fights. Blank exposed reel seats on HSR, HVR, and SAFR for increased sensitivity.

Fuji Alconite Guide Train

Durable Guides with slick inserts to help increase casting distance and performance.

Optimized guide spacing to prevent "blank touch," protecting the integrity of the rod.

Blank

Built using one of our highest modulus carbon fibers to keep material weight down while increasing strength and sensitivity.

Woven Carbon Handles

Durable, beautiful, ergonomic, sensitive, and easy to keep clean.

Rubber BRC Butt Caps

Standard on most models for maximum comfort and durability.

Warranty & Support

Backed by a Limited Lifetime Warranty and the Xpeditor Program (40% cost replacement).

From 360 flashers and plugs to the finesse of hover, float, and twitching jigs, this lineup offers a specialized action for every chapter of the salmon season. I’m proud to bring these from the CAD software in Woodland to your home waters.

See you on the river
